As we look back at 2023 and look forward to what 2024 has coming, we are so thankful for what God has done with our volunteer program! From completing office projects and summer camp related tasks to providing handyman skills for a myriad of maintenance and improvement projects, our volunteers provide significant value to this ministry.  We have grown in numbers and enjoyed the process.  We pray for even more volunteers to show their support at our work days in this coming year! This ministry started due to volunteer efforts and we are thankful that volunteering remains a critical piece of the ministry of Camp Manitoqua & Retreat Center.

What a joy for them to see their grandchildren serve here on summer staff!  One final connection, their son-in-law, also served on summer staff.  3 Generations serving the Lord at Camp Manitoqua - what a legacy!

Many thanks to our Garden Team volunteers who show up weekly to keep our grounds looking beautiful.  3 years ago, we had 1 person and added a second in the fall of 2020.  Last year, we added a 3rd team member and now we have grown to 6.  With having a larger group, we are able to better maintain more areas and begin to improve areas that we have not been able to care for as well as we would like!

The ideal would be to grow so that we had mini-teams taking care of specific areas to cover the entire property!

If you are interested in joining the Garden Team, please email Tamara McDonald at volunteer@manitoqua.org.

In addition, we love having groups assist the Garden Team with large scale clean up projects.  In addition to our work days, we have groups like Chicago Christian, who came out on May 22. About 50 students spent the morning as part of their Kingdom Building Day. Students helped us get ready for the summer season by clearing trails and cleaning up areas around the property!  Thank you to those students and the leadership of the school for selecting Camp Manitoqua for one of the destinations for this year's Kingdom Day!

Volunteer Highlight - April 2023 https://www.manitoqua.org/blog/post/volunteerapril2023 https://www.manitoqua.org/blog/post/volunteerapril2023#comments Mon, 24 Apr 2023 10:00:00 -0500 https://www.manitoqua.org/blog/post/volunteerapril2023 Camp Manitoqua was blessed to have 14 members of Alto Reformed Church from Waupun, Wisconsin spend three days of their Easter Spring break at camp completing some of the items on our ongoing project list.  By the time they left, they had gutted 3 guest room bathrooms in our Adult Retreat Center, installed new sinks and flooring & prepped for new shower stalls, cut up 3 downed trees that fell in recent storms, made new firepit seating for one of our firepits, removed a storage wall in our Dining Hall kitchen to create more space for prepping food, patched a ceiling and tiled floor as a result of that project, organized additional areas in the DH kitchen, painted the interior of one of our cabins, removed railroad ties from around our east playground and moved them to another area to designate parking for our summer staff, changed the oil and tuned up our mowers, gators and trucks, split wood and restacked our wood hoppers, and cleared and cleaned a house on the property that is undergoing renovation.  It certainly is true that many hands make light work and it is amazing all that was accomplished due to their skills, expertise, time, effort and servants’ hearts.

But more importantly, they spent time worshipping with our staff each night.  The camp staff had a chance to share stories of how this place is impacting individuals and the world for God's kingdom.  The members of Alto joined and shared their own stories.  They prayed for each other and members of their church who are struggling.  They sang songs.  Both young and not so young gave up their time this week to share their gifts with the camp and to allow God's Spirit to change their lives for His purposes. We appreciate you Alto Reformed Church!  And we look forward to the next time!

He has also painted multiple rooms within our buildings to give the Camp a fresh look.  Randy feels that Lord gave him the ability to do various handyman projects and wants to give back to Manitoqua Ministries by donating those skills.  Thank you Randy for your time and servant’s heart!

If you are interested in joining Camp Manitoqua's volunteer team, please email volunteer@manitoqua.org! Tamara McDonald is our Volunteer Coordinator and she would love to hear from you.
