What sets Camp Manitoqua apart?


  1. All summer staff have been personally interviewed, background checked through a national database, and require 2 professional references to be considered.

  2. All staff are trained in the proper execution of emergency procedures, behavior management, child abuse prevention, camper safety, and supervision.

  3. A minimum of 2 counselors sleep overnight in each cabin to maintain camper safety and supervision.


  1. Each summer, Camp Manitoqua closely follows the Camper to Staff Ratios set by The American Camping Association.

  2. With the exception of Lifeguards and Kitchen staff, all staff are 18 years of age or older to ensure proper adult supervision.

  3. Within your child’s cabin or day camp group, a minimum of one staff member is fully CPR and First Aid Certified by the American Red Cross.


  1. Each overnight counselor and Day Camp Coordinator is equipped with a first aid kit to quickly address minor injuries.

  2. Each overnight counselor and Day Camp Coordinator have the ability to call nursing and supervising staff for assistance at any point of the day or night.

  3. A Registered Nurse is on call throughout the summer for consultation with Nurse Assistants on the proper care of injuries and illnesses.


  1. A nurse assistant is on call 24 hours a day to care for your camper, should an injury or sickness occur.

  2. All staff are trained to share the Gospel story and each have their own personal faith testimony.

  3. At the Pickle Shack (snack store), campers are limited to how many sugar items they are allowed to purchase each day to maintain proper nutrition.


  1. All staff have been Mandatory Reporter Trained through the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.

  2. At the greatest depth, the pool is 3.5ft deep. There are always at least 6 certified lifeguards on duty while your child is swimming, as well as counselors in the pool monitoring for safety.

  3. Each staff member has previous ministry and childcare experience.


  1. To best support our campers, parents of campers who have an IEP, 504 Plan, or other types of support at school will be asked to fill out a “Camper Support Form” to help your child’s counselor support their individual needs throughout the week. 17.

  2. Prior to each week, each overnight counselor and day camp coordinator are briefed on allergies and medical concerns of the campers in their care for the following week.

  3. Kitchen staff are briefed on all camper food allergies and will contact parents individually to find accommodations for your camper’s specific needs.
